UBY (Unidentified Blue Yarn)

I am starting my first pair of socks for the month of January (I'm ahead of myself I know). I found some beautiful sock yarn in my stash that has long ago lost its label. It is a lovely variegated yarn that starts as a deep indigo and goes into light sky blue. I am starting the "Socks of Hideousness" pattern by Nicole Okun, it's a lovely pattern that was subjected to some not so nice colored yarn... You can find the pattern on Ravelry for FREE!!  Whatever my unidentified blue yarn is it does not seem to have a lot of elasticity, and I'm a little concerned about how the sock will turn out as a result, but we'll see. I have about 1/2" of the ribbing done at the top and it seems to be ok so far.

I am still working on the scarves that I will turn into a throw, I think if I do a series of scarves and sew them together I will have a much better chance at actually finishing a large knitting project. I have also purchased a great sweater pattern and nice yarn from elann.com, one of my very favorite places to get reasonably priced high quality yarn. So 2 projects on the needles and one on the way; knitting for 2012 here I come!

Starting Over

So I started this thing back in 2008 I think.... you'll notice how many times I've posted since then. I just don't know who would want to read this, and what to post about. I wanted the blog to be about knitting, a way to document my progress and become a part of the vibrant knitting community I have found online. So here I go again, one more shot at getting this thing really moving :)

I learned to knit from my Great Aunt Ann when I was little, stopped for a long time and then "reminded" myself how to knit again a little over 10 years ago. I have become a knitter obsessed! I have just started writing patterns (see yesterday's post) and love creating things that people will appreciate.

I have decided that Christmas of 2012 will be a knitting event! Everyone who I give gifts to will be receiving knitted presents. I will use this as an excuse to knit as much as I want to and to and to increase my knitting skill set. On top of all of that I want to knit one pair of socks a month, hopefully this will make me get over my phobia/hatred of picking up stitches!

Moss Stitch and Cable Scarf

C8F = slip 8 stiches onto cable needle hold in front, knit next 8 stitches off of left needle, knit 8 stitches off of cable needle.

All odd rows are right side rows, and all even numbered rows are wrong side.

Cast On 34 sts

Row 1: K3, moss stitch over next 6 stitches, k16, moss stitch over 6, k3

Row 2: K3, moss stitch over next 6 stitches, p16, moss stitch over 6, k 3

Rows 3,5, 7, 9, 11, 13, : As row 1

Rows 4, 6, 8,10, 12, 14, and 16 : As row 2

Row 15: K3, moss stitch over next 6 stitches, C8F, moss stitch over 6, k 3

repeat these 16 rows until scarf is desired length.
